What Do You Expect from a War Movie Starring Robert Goulet?

Underground is a grade-C war movie starring Robert Goulet as an ace spy who hijacks a mission and parachutes into France during World War II in order to settle a vendetta. It recycles just about every cliché known in the war movie genre, and suffers from bad lighting to boot.

First of all, Robert Goulet is just not the war hero type. Had this been a film about a spy who parachutes into France and adopts a cover as a cabaret singer, it might have worked. It certainly would've been a better movie than what we get. The rest of the cast is downright laugh inducing, second rate actors playing stock roles.

To make things worst, the lighting is truly terrible. Much of the film takes place at night, and it is often impossible to see what is going on. I haven't seen lighting this bad since The Green Berets. Even Birdemic did it better! Worst of all, the story is one you've seen thousands of times before, with characters and situations done in better films. You'll be laughing when you hear Goulet's back story-it's that trite!

Robert Goulet Just After Blue Light, With a Beard

This film is online now so I checked it out. It has the film of a TV film but the film poster has a rating on it so I guess it was released theatrically. I am a big fan of his comic book TV series Blue Light that only ran as a half season fill in show on ABC, in that series he is an American double agent working inside Berlin with his double agent from France played by the hot looking Christine Carère. In this film he is in a bit of a love triangle with Danièle Gaubert (also a not looking French actress). If you can't find Blue Light online, they condensed 3 or 4 episodes into a film named "I deal in Danger". In it Goulet infiltrates a German secret weapon factory in an underground complex. So, why isn't this a higher rating then a 5? Well, its low budget and shot a lot in the dark (like the ending), but worst of all, Goulet has a beard! He reminds me of a GI Joe doll version with the permed curly hair. This may be my least favorite thing I've watched with Robert. 5 out of 10.
