Elle boit pas, elle fume pas, elle drague pas, mais... elle cause!

A great little film by the master himself. Annie Girardot is a house keeper who works for 3 different households: Bertrand Blier is a bank teller who has killed his superior & buried him in his backyard, Mireille Darc is a T.V. hostess who had in her past been part of a sex orgy & will soon marry a politician & Sim is a priest by day & an exotic dancer by night. Thru Girardot's gossiping, they soon learn of the other's dirty little secret & start blackmailing each other to the bitter end. A period piece beautifully shot in the Paris of the 1970's & if that was not enough there is even a reproduction of the Mona Lisa with a full on rack.

How can't be delighted by this pure Michel Adiard's comedy gem, so typical of the sixties-seventies golden and forever lost era, glorious period, when everthing was permitted. And imagine with the likes of Annie Girardot, Mireille Darc, Bernard Blier...Please don't confond this one with the very same ELLE CAUSE PLUS, ELLE FLINGUE, still from the same director Audiard and with the same actors, but not characters. Of course it is lousy, but so French, however not recommended to young audiences, those born after the 2000's. But for old timers as me, it is a backway to their young years. Lousy gem.

'Elle boit pas ......!' is another of those light comedies for which the French are so famous. With Annie Girardot acting as its engine, it whirls you into an increasing complexity of human affairs that almost defies logic.

Set & made in 1970, this film completely breathes the style, the mood, the spirit and the speed of its days. Revoking memories to those who were around at the time. Probably looking ajar and old fashioned to those who weren't.

There also must be praise for this film's picturing, aggressively adding extra value to its plot. Making the bright coloring of 1970 even more flamboyant.
