70's suburban zeitgeist

Along with "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin" one of the most poignant depictions of the life of an english, suburban businessman in the 1970s. Look out for the links between Mr Benn's adventures and earlier events in Festive Road. The resemblance to Harvey Keitel in Taxi Driver when Mr Benn changes costume is uncanny. Taxi Driver was released in 1976!

Mr Benn's home street (Festive Road) was based on the actual Festing Road in Putney, London, where the programme's creator, David McKee, lived at the time. On 28 November 2009 an engraved paving slab commemorating this fact was laid outside his former house.
