An Odd Film From The Danzigers

Clearly the Danzigers wanted to find a story to fit into their schedule at as little cost as possible. So they chose this modern day 65 minute adaptation of "Julius Caesar".It is set in a boardroom and is very static ,and worst of all it is extremely dull. There are a lot of interesting actors appearing not least John Longden whose career stretched back to the silent films, and appeared in the first ever British all talking picture "Blackmail".The problem is that although they are speaking a very familiar text, albeit adapted,it just comes out as extremely boring. It is difficult to care whether or not Longden will be voted off the board and how the shareholders will react.

        An Honourable Murder

In the 1980s there was a Finnish film called Hamlet Goes Business.

In the 1960s there was a low budget B movie reworking of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar in modern day London.

Julian Caesar (John Longden) is the boss of Empire Petroleum. As he works on a erger with Pompey Shipping.

One of he director's Cassius (Douglas Wilmer) conspires to depose him. Julina has been boss too long and has lost his edge. The company is suffering.

The rest of the board are with him but Cassius needs to convince Julian's long time ally and loyal friend Brutus Smith.

This is a simplified version of Julius Caesar and works quite well with actors such as Wilmer involved.

This was the last acting appearance from Philip Saville as Mark Anthony. He went on to become a legendary television director.
