Jan Shepard, who guest-starred on Rawhide, The Virginian, Gunsmoke and two dozen other TV Westerns and played opposite Elvis Presley in movies eight years apart, has died. She was 96.

Shepard died Jan. 17 at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank of pneumonia brought on by respiratory failure, her son, Hollywood prop master, Brandon Boyle, told The Hollywood Reporter. “She was a good one and will be dearly missed,” he said.

Shepard portrayed Mimi, the sister of Presley’s Danny Fisher, in the Michael Curtiz-directed King Creole (1958) and the wife of Danny Kohana (James Shigeta), who partners with Presley’s Rick Richards in a helicopter business, in Paradise, Hawaiian Style (1966).

Damien Chazelle's Oscar-winning film La La Land broke one of the longest-standing records in Oscars history. La La Land is undoubtedly one of the best movies of both Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone's careers. The film infamously lost Best Picture at the 89th Academy Awards to Moonlight after it was mistakenly announced that La La Land had taken home the coveted prize. It did end up winning six Oscars, including Stone's first Best Actress award as well as Best Director, Best Cinematographer, and Best Original Score. The film also earned a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, making it one of Chazelle's best movies.

John Wayne was a humbled man early in the 1960s. His passion project, "The Alamo," had fallen well short of box office expectations in 1961. An epic Western about the siege of the basement-less San Antonio mission, Wayne directed the film and took its failure personally. He didn't need a hit; even at his lowest point in the 1970s, a Wayne picture at a certain budget level was an automatic greenlight. Still, Wayne was a prideful man who actively tended to his legacy; he was mindful of his fan base, and sought their approval. So Wayne came charging out of his corner in 1962, and knocked out every last naysayer with Howard Hawks' "Hatari!," "How the West Was Won," "The Longest Day" and John Ford's "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance."

Kicking October to the curb and bringing in some November goodness is a fresh slate of new content headed to Paramount Global’s streamer Paramount+, including the sequel to the hit 1997 film “Good Burger.”

Paramount+ started off November by adding more than 30 titles to its library, some of which include “Above the Rim,” Season 15 of “Ink Master,” “Gladiator” and “The Color Purple.”

And if you’re looking for some holiday movies to watch with the family, you can deck the halls with “Happy Christmas,” “Mistletoe Ranch” or “Christmas Eve.” When the kids go to sleep, adult-friendly treats like “Bad Santa” and “Bad Santa 2” are also available.

History repeated itself last week when actors went on strike at the same time as writers, who have been picketing for more than two months. This is only the second time in the history of the industry that both guilds have halted work simultaneously, with advancements in technology at the root of their cause, and it’s been 63 year since that event shook Hollywood. Today, writers and performers are fighting for their fair share of residuals in a world that has now largely turned to streaming services, and to protect their work from being taken over by AI, whereas in 1960, they were fighting for residuals from reruns and theatrical films being shown on a relatively new medium — television. Elvis Presley took the world by storm with his rock 'n' roll in the 1950s, and it didn't take long for Hollywood to take notice of the young star. Monty Python’s Flying Circus...

Elvis Presley made 31 films as an actor. He played rebels and jailbirds, G.I.s and boxers, roustabouts and rodeo stars. But he never played in a science fiction movie, nor did he get to show off his martial arts chops. The new trailer for Elvis from Outer Space promises to fix all that while delivering B-movie cult fun for the summer. Giant Pictures and Joba Entertainment set up the camp for a digital rollout next month.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, the King of Rock N’ Roll From Outer Space has blasted into Vegas from the far side of the Universe to compete in an Elvis impersonation contest with the best in town,” reads the official synopsis. “But just as he is on the verge of victory, he mysteriously vanishes. Who’s behind the disappearance? The mafia? The CIA? Or the aliens he left behind?”

We have a new trailer for Elvis from Outer Space. This B-movie madness comes from the folks at Giant Pictures and Joba Entertainment. In a year that has essentially wiped the traditional summer moviegoing season from the map, lovers of cinema have been forced to turn elsewhere. Namely, whatever options are available from the comfort of home, or at the relatively small number of dive-in theaters open across the U.S. To that end, this bizarre sci-fi flick is making its way to digital platforms next month.

The trailer is pretty slim on plot and makes it painstakingly obvious that this is a very low budget affair. Cheesy special effects. Costumes that appear as though they were purchased from a Spirit Halloween store. It's all too clear. That said, the idea seems to be that the Elvis we are following is not the original Elvis Presley.

There’s so much to love about Thanksgiving: the piles of food, the expressions of gratitude, that uncle that still tries to get you to pull his finger, the four-day weekend, etc. And yet, this late November feast of gluttony is easily the most underserved among the major U.S. holidays when it comes to one important factor: its songs.

I did my homework on Memorial Day: I thought of real veterans for awhile, let my mind wander over to hot movie veterans, and then ranked the 10 hottest of those for your viewing pleasure. I might be the best American I know. Insert your hilarious "You're a Grand Ole Flag" puns here.

Without further ado, here are my picks for the 10 hottest military gents of cinema. I sort of apologize that the list skews to newer films, but I swear I've selected some (literally) golden oldies too.

10. Josh Hartnett in Black Hawk Down

The doe-eyed hunk prince of 1998-2002 capped off his reign with his most critically acclaimed film, one where he got to fill out fatigues and show us how damn manly he could look.

Playing the slots and generally bad public behavior will get you a lot of points in "Fallout: New Vegas." The post apocalyptic vision of Sin City now has a complete list of Achievements available, and they reveal the presence of a lot of familiar elements, as well as a few ambiguously identified surprises and loads of opportunities to up your Gamescore. To get a sense of how dramatically celebrity culture has changed in five decades, you need only look back to 1958. On this day that year, Elvis Presley — perhaps the most famous singer in the world at the time who already had gigantic hits with songs like "Blue Suede Shoes," "Hound Dog" and "All Shook Up" — received his regulation military haircut at Fort Chaffee in Arkansas. Even though he was a massive star, he could not escape the reach of Uncle Sam. The fervor surrounding Presley's military service was intense, and amazingly, he served two full years in the Third Armored Division in Friedberg, Germany.
