Danish drama is an exceptional explorartion of race relations

This is the story of Paw, a West Indian boy sent to live with his aunt in Denmark after his parents' deaths. Rejected by the small village due to his dark skin, Paw finds himself in the care of a lonely woodsman, Anders, after his aunt dies. Anders, who lives a secluded life with a tragic past, becomes an unlikely guardian. His actions, like poaching and offering Paw cognac, set questionable examples. Eventually, Paw is placed in an institution but runs away to build a forest home. When discovered, he is allowed to return to Anders, with hope that the villagers will eventually accept him.

Based on a Torry Gredsted novel, the film primarily focuses on the villagers' racist attitudes towards Paw. Appearing superficially like a Disney family drama, BOY OF TWO WORLDS is instead a serious examination of race relations. It was released in Denmark in 1959 and in the US in 1970.
