I don't quite understand what people who see this film and give it a three or four are expecting. It is a Spanish musical from 1959 for the showcasing of Juanita Reina, one of the best copla singers in history. A big box-office hit with an extraordinary soundtrack, for the songs of the protagonist and the rest of the music, first-rate flamenco singing and truly stellar guitar playing. And some extraordinary horse training scenes as well. Frankly, I don't expect a dissertation among depressed teenagers on Heidegger's concept of Dasein, when in the opening credits I see Juanita Reina's name and hear a flamenco guitar with images of an Andalusian beach. To each their own, but this is a Greta example of copla musical featuring One of the greatest to ever do It.
