a splendid film. it is a strange verdict because the movie is one of ideological instruments of Romanian Communist Party. but remains an important testimony of brilliant art of two great directors and sign of European cinema values in Romanian film art. it is a film of flash - back who remember the French New Wave. in same measure, it is a speech about past, values, war and personal drama. and source of ash light. few sequences are more important than political message. and the story itself, after so many years, it is more than a propaganda slice. a man and his father. a secret. and two wars. but , after film end, it seems be more. a delicate emotions web who sustain the soul of movie. that is all. the poetry behind story. and few interesting images.

for its period it represents a courageous experiment. and the expression of desire to use the New Wave style. for today it is only an eccentric movie. not only for political message. or for the themes who sound fake . but for the forced manner to impose truth. for the desire to use different levels in a story who has the poetry of ash land. and for its strange poetry.not the least, for the intervention of censorship. a father. a son. and the same war in different periods. questions. festivities. and memories . a meeting. and the sacrifice who represents seed for new sacrifice. a film of memory and the past as axis of present.
