    A Near-Rerun

Friz Freling was notorious for re-using gags in his cartoons. These include playing "Those Endearing Young Charms" on a booby-trapped instrument, the trained pigeons gag and many, many others. This cartoon is a nearly complete remake of 1950's "Stooge For A Mouse". Freling replaced Mike the Bulldog with Bugsy, Sylvester with Mugsy and the mouse with Bugs. In fact, if you were to take out everything that was reused from this cartoon, it would only be thirty seconds long. It would be interesting to cut all the repeated gags from Freling's cartoons and see which pile would be larger.

Freling may have once been an innovative director, but as time went on, his cartoons became collections of overworked, reused material.

    Enjoyable stuff

Bugs Bunny awakes to find that his building has been taken over his building as their new hideout. Unwilling to share the house with gangster and with the gangsters unwilling to share with him, Bugs is forced to try and outwit Rocky and Mugsy in order to get rid of them and save himself from being `whacked'!

Another in the series of Warner Brother cartoons that spoofs the gangster movie cliché by using the character of Rocky to go up against the usual character in the usual sort of way. Here the material is reasonably good and creates several funny jokes - the dancing Bugs is one but my favourite is a running gag over a minute involving a series of lights and guns!

What makes it better than it sounds is great delivery from the characters. Rocky is hardly the best character as he is more about being a spoof than a character in his own right, however here his delivery is really good and his reactions are funny. Bugs is as good as ever and he really gives the mobsters a run for their money. His delivery combined with Rocky's reactions make this an enjoyable cartoon.

Overall this is an enjoyable short film that has good material that makes good use of the characters. Bugs is as good as usual and Rocky and Mugsy are better than they usually are and react well, making it funnier.

    A bit boring.

Compared to the first cartoon with Rocky, Mugsy and Bugs Bunny, this is pretty mediocre. The first one was my favourite Bugs Bunny episode, it had clever jokes, clever lines, a good plot and good animation - even the little bit of farce in it was good. However, this cartoon, there is too much farce, the plot is boring and repetitive (Bugs constantly trying to trick Rocky into thinking that Mugsy is trying to injure him) and there are only a few good lines and very few clever jokes.

In this episode, Bugs Bunny has moved from his burrow to a nice, comfortable basement in an empty house - when suddenly, two gangsters arrive back home, bank robbers. When Bugs Bunny realizes what they are up to, he plans to put a stop to the robbers' robbing...

I recommend this episode to anyone who is very new to Looney Tunes, to anyone who likes farce and to anyone who likes Bugs Bunny being meaner than usual. Otherwise you may not enjoy this, but I guess it is worth a go for the average Looney Tunes fan. Enjoy "Bugsy and Mugsy"! :-)

6 and a half out of ten.

The Second Rocky and Mugsy Cartoon.

This is the second Looney Tune with Rocky and Mugsy.

And again it has Bugs Bunny in it, like the previous one "Bugs and Thugs".

Rocky and Mugsy hide themselves in an old abandon apartment building which Bugs so happens to already be living in(under the floor surface that is) He finds out his guests are criminals, so he kept himself hidden from them and plot some traps and making Rocky think Mugsy is going to kill him.

This time it has more gags and more traps than before.

Another fine Rocky and Mugsy Looney Tune to check out.

    Classic!

Well, Bugsy and Mugsy is one of my personal favourite cartoons featuring Mugsy and Rocky. Plus it has Bugs, who works brilliantly with the right material. Bugsy and Mugsy is a classic for many reasons, with a somewhat simple story yes but it is very clever and funny.

The animation is good, Bugsy and Mugsy has lovely backgrounds and colours, and the music has a lot of energy. The dialogue is typical Looney Tunes wit, but three things make it enjoyable. One is the sight gags, especially the end sequence with the magnet, words cannot describe how funny and clever that was. The second is Bugs, he has some great material and is just great fun as he manipulates Rocky into believing that Mugsy is untrustworthy. Then there is Mugsy and Rocky themselves, their interaction towards each other makes the cartoon so funny, Mugsy dim-witted and oblivious to Bugs's actions and Rocky as he abuses Mugsy for doing something he didn't do, if that makes sense that is. And I mustn't forget Mel Blanc, as always he is brilliant. Overall, this one is a classic. 10/10 Bethany Cox

      Rocky: Yeah. All 14 karat.

Bugs Bunny: [from the hole in the floor] Carrots? Carrots? Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? Where? Who? When?

Rocky: Hey, Mugsy, we better get some shut-eye if'n we're gonna pull that job tomorrow.

      Mugsy: Okay, boss.
