Decent Spanish Noir was well directed by Ramón Fernandez about a cop investigation and compellingly played by José Suarez along with a great plethora of secondaries

An acceptable picture about a crime and its subsequent investigation y analyzing the police procedure , being a laudatory and moralizing picture about assignments carried out by an intrepid Police patrol , and inspired on real events . After standing at a cabaret , some friends go to the house of wealthy millionaire Elena Colomer (Helga Liné) , but a bit later on, the latter appears murdered , as the premise is to guess who's the killer. There are various suspect people , her friend Mara (Susana Campos) , her husband Julio Colomer (Fernando Cebrián), the banker Jorge Guitart (George Rigaud), Coral Rivero (Katia Loritz) , Miguel Serra (Ángel del Pozo) , among others . The film follows the complex investigation at a night and day police service in a desolate Madrid . As the main question is to discover the murderer , as this one results to be a whodunit with a lot of suspicious people , as the picture shows the hard mission executed by a Police Brigade formed by tough Policemen such as chief Inspector Luis Lozano finely played by José Suárez , Inspector Paco Jiménez performed by Roberto Camardiel , Inspector Roca interpreted by Emilio Rodríguez and a subinspector acted by Hugo Blanco . Based on an intelligent and exemplifying screenplay by José María Palacio, Enrique Urrutia, and director Ramón Fernández himself ; being excessively illustrating and laudatory on Police activities by interrogating suspicious people as well as witnesses here and there . Inspired by actual facts , taken from ¨Dirección General Seguridad¨ , as screenwriters and technician team investigated the Police archives . Shot in a solitary Madrid , and at a cabaret including musical shows with dancers and singers as Ronnie Chapman who at the same time is a suspect prime . It packs an evocative and appropriate cinematography in black and white by Godofredo Pacheco . As well as an atmospheric musical score by Adolfo Waitzman .This Spanish thriller was well starred by José Suarez who was born 1919 in Asturias and he died year 1981 . He plays competently an intelligent cop in command of the patrol investigating a grisly killing . José Suarez joined the Legionary Corps (la Legión), and finally volunteered for the División Azul (German infantry division fighting communism) to Russia, returning to Spain in 1943. After the war ended he got a job at the Asturian railways. A well-known Spanish director, Gonzalo Delgrás, selected him after a casting to star in his next film, Altar mayor (1944). It became a success and the start of a long career. Some of his early films were Oro y marfil (1947), La niña de Luzmela (1950), Historia de una escalera (1950), a secondary role in Alba de América (1951) and then came the young policeman in Brigada criminal (1950). This film became sort of a trademark for him, and from then on he would often play police roles and hard-boiled characters becoming his tall, reserved and dark looks. He received an award for his role in ¿Crimen imposible? (1954) and would be one of the football players in Once pares de botas (1954). He made Señora ama (1955) with Dolores del Río and then came Calle Mayor (1956) with Betsy Blair, maybe his most well known film, for which he would receive the Triunfo award as best actor. The success of this film at the Venice festival opened him the doors to the Italian cinema. He got leading roles in films like El desafío (1958), directed by Francesco Rosi, and El magistrado (1959), directed by Luigi Zampa. He would go on playing mostly detective stories, drama, westerns and some comedies in Spanish and European productions. His last film was as a guest star in the successful Curro Jimenez series . He is well accompanied by a great support cast with plenty of familar faces , such as : George Rigaud , Katia Loritz, Hugo Blanco , Ángel del Pozo , Fernando Cebrián , Juán Luis Galiardo , Emilio Rodríguez Carlos Romero Marchent , Santiago Ontañón , José Manuel Martín , Rafael Hernandez , Pérez Tabernero , Matilde Muñoz Sampedro , including cameos and other uncredited appearances .

The motion picture was professionally directed by prolific filmmaker Ramón Fernández . He was a craftsman who made a lot of films, being his greatest hits ¨No desearas el vecino del quinto¨ that is deemed to be the most commercial and grossing movie of the Spanish cinema and ¨Margarita se llama mi amor¨. Ramón Fernández made all kinds of genres such as thriller as ¨Rueda de Sospechosos , Lamuerte ronda a Monica¨, Religious movies as ¨El Cristo del Oceano , Sor Ye Ye¨, and especially comedy : ¨Aqui el que no corre vuela, Casa Flora, Un lujo a su alcance, La chica de la piscina, Simon contamos contigo, Doctor me gustan las mujeres , La gloriosa hazaña del cipote de Archidona, Cateto a babor , Las panteras se comen a los ricos, El diablo cojuelo, Los novios de mi mujer , Ahi va otro recluta¨, among others . Rating : pretty good 6.5/10.
