Religious and military drama about a priest on the front line during the Spanish Civil War

A patriotic movie by Pedro Lazaga, concerning religion, feats and misfortunes suffering a group of soldiers, mostly officers , during Spanish Civil War , 1936-1939. Enjoyable movie full of jinjoist fanfare , drama, nostalgia, good feeling and touching images . It starts with a military officer : Jose Marco who pays a visit to a parish priest , Father Herrera : Adolfo Marsillach . From now on , being developed a long flashback regarding former relation among them . But this priest is really a coward and hasn't valor enough , when bombs dropping and going off resulting in frightening Padre Herrera runs and hides .

Acceptable film dealing with a priest and his relationship with other members of his regiment. Made in traditional style , jingoist elements , religious spirit and fight against adversities . Developing the course of their lives on the war front , sacrifices and disputes . The highlight of the movie occurs when the priest celebrating Mass while the enemy is bombing , and then Father Herrera, ultimately, gets courage enough to finish the ceremony . Main starring Adolfo Marsillach gives a decent acting , along with Gerard Tichy as a captain who bets for conquering women , Jose Marco , Josefina Güell and Jose Maria Caffarel.

It contains atmospheric cinematography in black and white by Salvador Torres . As well as an evocative musical score by Xavier Montsalvatge . The picture was professionally directed by Pedro Lazaga , though it has some flaws and gaps . This Frente Infinito belongs to quintet of films directed by Pedro Lazaga concerning the Spanish civil War as "La Patrulla" about the División Azul, "La Fiel Infantería" 1959, "Posición Avanzada" 1965 , "El otro Árbol de Guernica" 1969 about children transported to abroad and "Torrepartida" 1956 about the Maquis . The flop or limited success of these films led Pedro Lazaga to direct a multitude of comedies , becoming himself the main representative as a filmmaker of the Spanish Comedy. His first comedies were La Vida es Maravillosa and Roberto El Diablo . Following a string of comedies of certain success as Las Muchachas de Azul, Ana dice que Si, Luna de Verano, Los Económicamente Débiles, Los Tramposos , Trio de Damas . And other films including the best comical actors as Alfredo Landa , Concha Velasco , Tony Leblanc and some of them for the great comedian Paco Martinez Soria as La Ciudad no es para Mi, Abuela Made in Spain , Hay que educar a Papa, El Abuelo tiene un plan, El Padre de la criatura , El alegre divorciado, Vaya par de Gemelos , among others .
