A homeless mother with a fatherless child

Ordinary melodrama concerning the fate of a poor inexperienced girl coming directly from a nunnery out to the mean intrigues of ordinary life among men of vary different degrees of baseness, who naturally all subject her to mean treatment, forcing her to constantly run away, to finally end up in a hospital for mothers giving birtth to children without fathers. It's all Italian and human enough, and also the women are of very different sorts of femininity, and there is actually only one woman who treats Maria well - and she ultimately saves her, above all by scolding the irresponsible father, who isn't bad at all but only the victim of another woman's intrigues. Yet it is not very operatic nor sentimental nor exaggerated in any way, but the main quality of the film is the music by Carlo Rustichelli, which consistently wraps the film up in velvet, causing its main enjoyment. It's not a great film nor remarkable in any way, but it tells something of conditions in Italy concerning lone mothers and how they actually could be well taken care of by the presence of ordinary human compassion, which naturally is perhaps more omnipresent in Italy than in any other European country, espcially in the early fifties.
