Typical Republic western for this period

I consider it as a typical Republic western production.

In fact, it is a western without being a western. It takes place in Minnesota, not really the same location as Arizona, Texas or New Mexico, or even Oregon...

There is much costumes, indoors, talk; so, it's more a melodrama than a western as we used to see elsewhere. I saw many Republic movies such this one before. See for instance Allan Dwan's "Belle Le Grand", or Jo Kane's Flame of the Barbary Coast or his other movies in the late 40's...

No many gunfights, dust, Indians or cavalry.

But not all Republic westerns were like that. Only a dozen at most. As far as I know...

You'll note that the music score remembers "Love Me Tender"'s one.

Rod Cameron and Jim Davis are as good as ever.

    Where are the Merritt Brothers?

Never heard of the Powells. But many places are named after the Seven Iron Men of the range, the Merritts. A grandson of one of the brothers was asked in a TV interview what he thought of the mine overlook being dedicated to the Merritts. He spewed out "That damn Rockefeller was a crook!" we all have heard of him.

I was born on the Range (Virginia,Mn) and grew up in Duluth. I've never heard Duluth mentioned so many times in an hour and a half, before this movie. It was interesting when it was mentioned someone coming "down" from Duluth. I doubt they came any where near the Iron Range when making this movie. It was a typical 50's movie but not bad. Not a western. Slightly east of the Mississippi River. But many western stars in it.

I agree with the average rating * 6 stars.
