The community displayed in this film is a township far in the province where the belief in God still is very important. This is demonstrated in a lawsuit where the pretty house maid Helga acts out true to her belief and speaks on behalf of her counterpart. There is symbolic drama of high tension in this figure, and it is noteworthy that director Alice O'Fredericks dare to take up this theme, for her curriculum of films lies within the comedy genre. Still, this is one of her best films, the subject matter presented with distinction and conviction. It takes determination to present a religious motive so uncompromising and it claims respect. The supporting cast reflect more nuanced characters than usual in the films of the period, and even Poul Reichhardt manages to distance himself from his usual role and comes across with strength and willpower. This became the last attempt from the director to accomplish something deeper than the usual genre comedies and family films.
