They even managed to make Sid Field seem unfunny

we should be grateful that this film exists as so many of the Warner Teddington films are deemed to be lost.Unfortunately Field was not well served by scriptwriters in either this or his other films. However although the plot is inane and unfunny Field instills enough pantomime to raise laughs particularly in a spoof dancing scene. This film seems to be set in that never neverland of the Phoney War.Apparently you could still pop over to Paris at the drop of a hat.The writers have so run out of ideas by the end of this film that they decide that everyone should indulge in a custard pie fight.Frankly they should have thrown away the script and let Field get on with it.

A rare chance to see Sid Field

I am in the process of inserting reviews of the films I've seen that so far lack one, this film was shown at the NFT in London (UK) May 11th 2012, my rating is 3/7, review follows...

Sid Field is a cloakroom attendant who foils a Nazi spy ring, this seldom seen film is of interest as one of the few chances to see the work of Sid Field one of the most popular English comedians of his day, the film itself is an unremarkable farce, the only other cast or crew member I recognise is the editor, Terence Fisher who went on to fame as a director of Hammer Horror.

The other two chances to see Field on film are.. "London Town" (1946) which I have yet to see, and... "Cardboard Cavalier" (1949) a total flop that ended the directing career of the great Walter Forde, my rating 1/7.
