    son of a beach

Probably one of the most memorable Tom and Jerry animated shorts, has Tom the cat hopelessly smitten with his love interest at a day at the beach. Jerry the mouse, with the help of a crab (in the crab's defense he hates Jerry as well as Tom), plot to of course turn Tom's good time into a day of pain, degradation and humiliation, often with hilarious results (the clam sandwich, the sand tea, the fake wooden lady, the spit-take, and of course the umbrella spring to mind) Viva Tom and Jerry!! This hilariously great cartoon can be found on disc one of the Spotlight collection DVD of "Tom & Jerry"

Life's a beach, but this cartoon rocks!

Tom and Jerry are on a beach, and Tom tries to get friendly (in a very surprising way!) with a female cat that is also there. The rest is the usual chases and stuff.

This does not have much of a plot, admittedly, but the gags come thick and fast. And what gags they are! You barely get a chance to breathe before the next one happens most of the time!

Take a look at it now!

    Sun, sea, sand, and sadism.

Tom is spending a day at the beach, and is out to impress the sexy white cat who is sunbathing nearby. Mischievous Jerry, however, is determined to scupper Tom's plans.

I love it when Tom and Jerry get away from their usual domestic setting to cause havoc somewhere new, and the seaside proves to be the ideal locale for plenty of inventive mayhem and violent hi-jinx: the cat and mouse get in trouble with a cantankerous crab, who is keen to use his pincers on the duo whenever possible; Jerry gets Tom to swallow sand, break his teeth on a shell sandwich, and leap head first onto a wooden post (which the cat is tricked into thinking is a drowning woman); Jerry is launched from a soda bottle into the sea; and Tom swallows an inflatable horse.

    Another day at the beach!

This "Tom and Jerry" short from 47 called "Salt Water Tabby" is fun with chase and fun slapstick action as it's set at the beach. However some supporting characters are found first a female cat named Toots and plus a sharp and pinch like little crab plays in and out of the day during the cat and mouse chases. So really it's not your typical day at the beach as it's full of typical parody fun and pain mostly for Tom cat. Seeing things like crab rock sandwiches, and coffee and sand tea to drink wow just gross! Still really this ranks as one of the duo's most memorable shorts!

A rock solid Tom and Jerry cartoon

I adore Tom and Jerry, and I enjoyed this cartoon. The only quibble I have is that the pacing is a little too fast, but it is still hugely enjoyable. The animation is absolutely, very colourful and bright, and the music is rousing. The sight gags are plentiful and all of them work, while the story while perhaps routine at first glance is effective and has a good structure. Tom and Jerry still have their likability, I am probably biased as I love this duo too much and hate criticising them.

Overall, just a rock solid Tom and Jerry cartoon, with a lot going for it. It mayn't be their best, but boy isn't it entertaining, the ending especially brought a smile to my face. 9/10 Bethany Cox
