    Good Hockey Flick

Allan Lane stars a hockey player being recruited for Hollywood and the movies. Two agents are looking for talent and they think he'll be perfect starring in a new movie series. Unfortunately Lane has little interest in becoming a movie star. After his hockey days are over he hopes to become a full time architect. Jean Rogers plays one of the agents and Lane falls for her big time. So much so that he agrees to go to Hollywood just so he can be around her.

While his movie career is on the upswing, Lane's hockey career suffers. A deal he had to work at an architect firm also falls through. It gets worse when he is blamed for an on ice accident that nearly kills a teammate. Rogers realizes she's really responsible for much of Lane's problems and decides to do what she can to make things right.

The print I saw, under the title, Tournament Tempo, is a TV print edited down to 53 Minutes. This version is choppy with scenes obviously missing, but one still gets the feel of the film. Lane and Rogers are both true professionals and have a nice chemistry together. Watch for an amusing scene with that great character actor Russell Hicks. Hicks plays a drama coach trying to teach Lane how to act. He asks Lane to act out a love scene with him and to pretend he is a beautiful young woman. Needless to say the brash hockey player has trouble making the scene work, but it's good for a few smiles for the viewer.
