    Only For fans

Frank Randle was a north country comedian who specialised is slapstick .He was very popular in the North country. His humour was very unsophisticated and was of a type which died out with the closing of the music halls. You can really say that you either love him or hate him.I come in the second category. The film is basically an excuse for Randle to parade his variety sketches. At the beginning he does this with a rather curious stooge. In the 40s and 50s there were a number of diminutive comedians such as Jimmy Clitheroe and Wee Georgie Wood who specialised in playing naughty schoolboys. Here there is an actor called Stan Little.Basically the joke is that the schoolboy is shown to be cleverer than the adult. Now it just looks strange and stilted. In the middle of this film there is a lengthy variety show which is reasonably entertaining. The rest is painfully unfunny and really only for fans.
