This morning, 12-year-old German actress Helena Zengel earned her first Golden Globe nomination for her turn opposite Tom Hanks in Western, News of the World.
With this recognition for her American film debut, she becomes one of the youngest actors ever nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and finds herself in good company.
To put things in perspective, Zengel is younger, as she accepts her first nomination, than were a number of revered actors at this pivotal career moment, including Saoirse Ronan (first nominated for Atonement), Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen), Natalie Portman (Anywhere But Here) and Jodie Foster (Freaky Friday).
Also receiving their first Golden Globe nominations at the age of 12 were Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense) and Kirsten Dunst (Interview with the Vampire).
For Zengel, the recognition feels “very, very good.”

The Curse of Oak Island continues this week as the Lagina brothers look to drain the swamp and find Captain Kidd’s treasure. The team have moved their efforts from the original Money Pit site, where they’ve been digging for a few weeks. Last week they went in search of a mystery golden object and now they are keen to dig deeper. Earlier in the season they did find something of interest in the swamp, which it was thought might have come from a ship. Now they want to get to the truth of the matter and plan to dig down into...read more...

Tonight we finally reached the first live show of The X Factor 2015 - so it was a pretty important episode tonight to say the least!
We saw some spectacular performances, as well as that Adele rendition - yes, we're trying to block it out too. Plus there was Rita's hair, which drew a fair few comparisons.
Digital Spy was watching along, and rounded up the best Twitter reactions of the evening.
A lot of people were missing Dermot:
Don't get me wrong I love olly and caroline but I miss dermot. He was so smooth when it came to presenting. #XFactor

There's already a rift between judges Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell on The X Factor, and it's down to Max Stone's reggae version of Adele's sob-inducing ballad 'Someone Like You'.
Although Simon was complimentary about his Overs contestant's performance, Cheryl was less enthusiastic.
After apologising to the audience because "he (Simon) is talking over my mic again", the Girls Aloud star said that Max's performance "took away the sentiment of the song" and remarked that his performance "just didn't work" for her.
"For me that song is so personable, the reggae thing didn't just work for me, but the vocal..."
Interrupting his fellow judge, Simon disagreed and admitted that he "couldn't escape" Max - a hint towards his previous lack of enthusiasm towards the contestant. He also had plenty of praise for the "really clever version of the song".

Dermot O'Leary will be leaving X Factor after eight glorious years as host.
We'll miss the slick suits, the even slicker dance moves, the badinage with Louis Walsh, and most of all his valiant attempts to interview an A-list popstar mere seconds after one of their high-octane performances.
However, we're not the only ones who'll miss Dermot - here's how social media has reacted to news of his X Factor departure:

Above: Us three-sheet poster for The Private Life of Henry VIII (Alexander Korda, UK, 1933).
The great Charles Laughton may not have been the prettiest of movie stars, but he had a presence that many matinee idols would have killed for (as the current retrospective running at Film Forum will attest). In an era in which glamor was everything, studio marketers may have struggled with how to present Laughton’s unconventional looks and his larger-than-life portrayals of larger-than-life characters (so many monsters, murderers, tyrants, or simply overbearing fathers) to the public. In most of the posters for his most famous film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939), he is all but a silhouette, a spoiler alert to his monstrous transformation as Quasimodo. And in some posters for The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933), the film for which he won his first Oscar, Henry is made to look more like the Hans Holbein...

Pickpockets to highwaymen, bank heists to drug smuggling, the readers' collective Robin Hood act has made a treasure chest

From rampant robbery to surreptitious smuggling your treasures cascaded through the cellar door of the Readers Recommend and I spent many hours admiring, examining, analysing and enjoying. I'm standing on the deck of a double-masted sailing ship, spinning the wheel and ordering the crew to unfurl our full sails so we can race across the waves in search of loot, plunder, and booty. Nearby, two ships are engaged in a duel of cannon fire, and a bell rings overhead to warn me that another ship has turned to pursue us. I need to drop the ship's diving bell over the side of the ship near the wrecked hull of an unfortunate vessel so I can collect some of the rich stuff on the bottom of the ocean, but before I can do that, it'll be smoke and swordplay. Except I'm actually in a hotel suite in Seattle, while a member of Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag" team takes me through the paces, and tries to make sure that I don't run my ship aground on a...

Originally they were posted to Ubisoft’s website, but were then posted to Youtube, meaning, they’re everywhere to view now. Tomorrow sees the release of the 4th instalment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, On Stranger Tides. The return of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is sure to excite cinemagoers – particularly the loins of legions of devoted female fans! – with his distinct droll, ebullient personality and comic timing. He’s the quintessential pirate figure of our generation, glamorising the lifestyle on the high seas!
However, pirates have been a stock character within film industry for as long as cinema has been in existence. The first known pirate feature was a silent 1 reel, short film adaptation of Treasure Island in 1908. Unfortunately, the American Film Institute has deemed the film lost and a copy is extremely unlikely to be in existence any more. As film technology progressed, so did the pirate subgenre of action cinema, with every decade of the 20th and 21st century having at least one major production based...

Abbott. Costello. Laughton. Three stars boasting one Oscar between them deliver the yo-ho-ho-ho-ing of this merry musical-comedy tale of pirates and buried treasure. Casting an acclaimed actor renowned for gravitas in a knockabout romp may seem unusual. Yet Academy Award winner Charles Laughton, who portrayed menacing Captain Bligh in Mutiny on the Bounty and the title role in the swashbuckling adventure Captain Kidd, sails into this sea of silliness with great glee. Instigators of most of that silliness are, of course, the legendary Bud and Lou,...

I didn’t think I would like the new Tron film. The original was a childhood favorite, even though it’s not a terribly good flick, and everything I’d seen and heard about the sequel gave me a massive feeling of “meh”. Well, the sequel, while flawed, is entirely watchable, at times even good, even if it suffers the same kind of story malaise that affected its predecessor.
