Ein Mann mit Grundsätzen?

This comedy has a very fine first half (or about) that is witty and with fine and surprising characterizations and good dialogue. Though the cast is good during the entire film, that cannot be said of the script. It more or less deteriorates into something that lies between a dreary love story and a road movie; and certainly control is lost over the storytelling and the witticism. At the end some real problems occur and the film desperately tries to correct some loose ends. The music by Michael Jary is splendid.

Even though a bit uneven, this film is a constant pleasure to watch. The star ensemble is very good, especially Elfie Meyerhofer, who in this film is a bit on the plump side, but nevertheless extremely beautiful with a pair of the most beautiful eyes in the history of German cinema. It's a pity she doesn't get to sing in this film - she was a celebrated opera primadonna, who studied together with Elizabeth Schwartzkopf and Peter Anders and was engaged by Herbert von Karajan and other conductors for several world famous opera festivals. It's a pity her films have not been re-released commercially (you can find only a couple over the internet). About the film - if you succeed in turning a blind eye to some weird scenes (like how on earth can she supposedly be up and busy without a trace of a hangover that crushes Hans Söhnker down, when it actually was SHE who did the drinking the previous night), you'll be in for a treat.
