odd combination of navy and adventure

Released january 1942, JUST after the united states had been yanked into world war two, post pearl harbor. In a mixup of names, two sailors are given use of a fancy apartment, which leads to more adventures. Including getting mixed up with a gangster's search for buried treasure on some faraway island. They accomplish a lot in the short run time ! A sixty three minute shorty, from PRC... producers releasing corporation. The lowest budget of the low budget studios. Directed by bill beaudine. He directed most of the bowery boys films. And lots of religious films for the protestant film commission. Kind of a cursed cast, though. Star ralph byrd died young at 43. Veda borg (playe maureen) died pretty young at 58. Rick vallin died at 57. On the plus side, bill beaudine junior (played bingo) lived to a ripe old 96! This film is pretty good, for a B shortie.

    Another fun one

I love these kinds of films. They're quickly-made and they know exactly what they are. They're the perfect kind of film for certain occasions, and as they years pass they only become more appealing as true 'classics' of the genre. It's just an hour-long and the perfect sort of thing to turn on in the background at a party or enjoy with friends.
