"Seabiscuit" it ain't, but it does have Boots Mallory.

And lots of pluck and luck and the Prodical returns stuff, and it plays real well, especially if one has a cold beer, some potato chips, a baloney sandwich, and nowhere to go. Such as the period between the end of football season and the beginning of the next football season.

Bob Hamilton (John Darrow) gets into a peck of trouble when crooks cause the defeat of his father's horse in the Derby, and it is reported he is in with the crooks. The old man (Phillips Smalley)disowns him and his sweetheart, Patricia (Boots Mallory), breaks their engagement. So Bob and "Skipper" (Paul Hurst), the also-suspected trainer, head for the western tracks, taking with them the horse Hamilton Senior forced them to buy, determined to make good and prove they are on the level.

Things go bad for them on the winter-season tracks, and they would be up the creek for food if "Skipper" didn't have a good thing going with widow Hemingway (Georgia O'Dell), who owns a sandwich stand near the track. Patricia and Bob's father have learned that Bob had no connection with the Derby crooks, and that one of Hamilton's grooms, Bill Figg (James Flavin), was the real culprit. But rock-steady Bob refuses reconciliation until he can prove he has the right stuff and true-grit worth although, at the moment, his net worth is a few dollars short of zero.

But Patricia, arranges for Mrs. Hemingway, to "loan" Bob the money needed to pay the entry fee of his horse in the big stake race of the winter meet. Meanwhile, back at the stables, Figg reports to his Big Boss (Ted Adams)that elder Hamilton's horse has been "taken care of", and the Big Boss is very happy with the report as Hamilton's horse is the only one in "The Big Race" that offers any serious competition to the gambler's entry.

But Bob and "Skipper" and the horse they were rode out on think otherwise.
