    wheezy farce

Edmund Gwenn is a retired naval officer who has acquired an old valuable relic by force. He is pursued to his west country retirement cotttage by 2 groups of Spaniards. The film revolves around their attempts to reclaim the relic and his to resist them and also the prospect of his daughter's marriage to a naval officer. Also there is a curse of death attached to the relic so Gwenn thinks he is doing everyone a favour by keeping it out of circulation, notwithstanding the fact that he reckons that it is worth about half a million pounds. This is supposed to be a farce but i have to say that despite the best efforts of Gwenn it is rather unfunny. It is clearly a quota quickie, photographed in instances as if the camera were in the stalls. At best a curiosity.
