From the convent to the barracks ...

If it weren't for Raimu; this operetta would be completely forgotten;the songs make the average viewer frequently use the fast forward button .One can save ,at a pinch the rehearsal of a secular song in the convent, which, when Mother superior appears , segues into a canticle ending with "gloria ,amen" .

The convent is a place where men are not allowed (but for the general ,who is the superior's brother ,and his young lieutenant , who passes himself off as an education officer ; in the barracks (at the time) it was the other way around : women ought not to enter these male places ,but Mamz'elle Nitouche (whose name means that the butter wouldn't melt in her mouth) finds a way to clink glasses with the officers .

Remade by Marc Allégret 's brother, Yves , in color, in 1953,starring Fernandel and Pier Angeli ; twenty years later ,it was still thoroughly inept.
