    Who Asked For What?

William Gargan and Orien Heyward are a young couple living off the largesse of his uncle. When said uncle dies in an accident, leaving Gargan's nasty cousin as the sole heir, they must come up with a way of earning a living. So Gargan turns mystery novelist, with a skirt-chasing detective that is immensely popular. Suddenly Gargan runs out of ideas, Miss Heyward divorces him, and Gargan forestalls the lawsuits for unfulfilled contracts by pretending to be the detective. But this leads him and Miss Heyward into a mystery that he must solve with the same imagination that made his novels popular.

It's a silly comedy with a nicely interwoven mystery. Although Gargan gives it the college try, and Miss Heyward, in her second movie and first leading role plays a convincing ditz, this Paramount programmer lacks much in the way of sparkle, although Richard Carle has a good turn as Gargan's money-money agent. Still, at only 67 minutes, it's a pleasant if not outstanding movie.
