    Period Piece

Difficult to believe that light operettas existed on the screen in the thirties in competition with the big brassy musicals. This has two American actors,Otto Kruger as the King and Victor Joey as the evil prime minister who wants to usurp the King and acquire the gypsy lands which have oil reserves.Mary Ellis, plays Melitza,Queen of the Gypsies. She sings the title song no less than three times.Barry K Barnes and Finlay Currie are also to be seen.Only for those fans of Novello.
