Film Daily liked it a lot.

This 1936 film was distributed in the US in November of 1938 by Ernest Zergani, and the Film Daily reviewer noted that the production value was better than average for imports, and the cast is generally competent. (Well, faint praise is better than none at all.) The story is set in the Napoleonic era, and Gino Cervi plays an officer who is forced to resign his commission when a subordinate falls prey to a spy and certain sensitive documents come up missing.

A reward is offered when he disappears, but he rejoins the Army under an assumed name, and returns to set things right.

This Manderfilm Production was shown at NYC's Cine Roma with Italian dialogue and no English titles.

The film is supposed to be set in North France, between Paris and Normandy; but the scenery is typically Mediterranean with pine trees and cypresses as it was actually shot in Tirreania, Tuscany.
