Way Up Thar marked Joan Davis' first and Mack Sennett's last film

This short is historical for two reasons: 1) It marked the film debut of Joan Davis, who became quite a popular comedienne during the '40s and '50s and 2) It marked the final new one from producer/director Mack Sennett, who had made many hit silent comedies previously but during the rest of the sound era would rest on his laurels by either releasing compilations of his best work or appear in tribute either as the subject of "This is Your Life" or in a cameo in Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Cops. Ms. Davis does her trademark song-and-dance here doing some funny impersonations of a fish and taping her feet on the wooden floor while carrying some plates on one hand. Also of note is appearances of Buster Keaton's mother and sister as well as the musical group The Sons of the Pioneers of which one of the members was Leonard Slye who would later become better known as Roy Rogers! So on that note, I say Way Up Thar is worth a look.
