WHAT A PITY ABOUT THE ENDING

Exciting and very good murder drama due to the precise direction of Lamprecht and cast. For the greatest part the script is well thought out and written, but it unexpectedly and astoundingly produces a incredibly sentimental and outright obtuse ending, what a pity. About 1/3 of the film takes place on a ship and the atmosphere on the ship and the relationship between captain and officers are extremely well hit. The storm scenes are very convincing and proof that the UFA was still capable of great technical achievements. But without this cast it would not have been this exciting; outstanding are both Rene Deltgen and Willy Birgel, but let's not forget Rudolf Platte in a rare more or less serious role.
