In December 1939 the movie was banned in Nazi Germany due to the too sympathetic portrayal of Englishmen, who were considered enemies at that time.

Goofs
The short chronicle description of the beginning of World War 1 is partly incorrect. While the mobilization of the People started on the 1st August 1914, it was the same day as when Germany declared War to Russia, while in the movie it mentions that Russia declared War to Germany on the 3rd August. Also Germany declared war on the 3rd August, it didn't happen on the 2nd August as in the movie.
