    love among the scars.

Here's a good, typical melodrama of the era, where a bizarre event leads to a battle of moralities, inner, and communal. In it a small town is easily persuaded to think the worst about a young man accused of a crime, though proven innocent because of too obviously forged evidence, is nonetheless damned by the townsfolk. That the fellow in question (essayed by Monte Blue) has a dark streak and a "U" shaped mark on his face resembling a mule print, brought on by a fire injury, isn't played up very much. He got the scars honorably because he rescued the girl in it, and tragically, because the same incident caused his parent's death. So he is accepted by everyone dispite this deformity. It only comes into play later, when a Doctor tries some plastic surgery on him, at the time a very new field. The doc is played by Tully Marshall, so at first we don't know wether he might be an evil crackpot or not, but he's the real thing after all, and Blue comes out better than ever. Though the addition of a small mustache makes him somehow unrecognizable to his former associates, where pulls a scam on them for revenge. In the end, everyone comes out with all the secrets and forgiveness is bestowed. Maybe unrealistic, but an interesting yarn anyway.
