The Brass Ring, Not The Gold

Monte Blue and Marie Prevost get married. It soon becomes clear they have different ideas of what that means, based on their observations of their own parents. His have been wed for thirty years, with never a recrimination so far as he knows. She has her mother.... and an insistence on having a good time. A child of their own does not help matters.

This movie starts and, for most of its length, is a well told tale of what happens when two people go into a marriage with no idea of the actual issues it involves, and certainly neither the abilit to deal with the problems or a willingness to do so. Of course, in the end, it settle for the conventional ending, and is weakened thereby. However, for most of its legth, it's a serious and not too doleful cosideration of its issues.

Marie Prevost is cute as a button here, and it's easy to see why she was such a popular screen personality in this period. I fact, it looks like Clara Bow's screen personna was modeled on her.
