    Mangled

The narrative of this film, "All for Money", is mangled. It's a melodrama at times, with some convoluted tragedy, and some scattered moments of comedy, as well. It's set in postwar German society, which is pointed out in the film, with some mention of reversal of fortunes, but any allusions to social commentary fall flat. In addition to being poorly constructed and dull, it's badly filmed, especially in respect to camera positioning, which wasn't helped by the poor quality of the print I saw. Emil Jannings, one of the best actors at the time, and who plays an idiotic beef magnate here, is the only plus. The best moments are when he's provided comic situations. But, that didn't make "All for Money" worthwhile. Not recommended.
