The Girl Who Ran Wild (1922) - Lost Silent Melodrama

Wild and boisterous, M'Liss ( Gladys Walton ) is left orphaned after her father 'Bummer' Smith ( Marc Robbins ) is murdered. The tomboyish girl takes up with the wrong crowd, until she meets the handsome new schoolmaster ( Vernon Steele ), who persuades her to tidy herself up and sends her to school for some much needed education. When the schoolmaster seems to be paying more attention to pretty Clytie ( Lucille Ricksen ) jealous M'Liss decides to run off with the beastly Jack Velvet ( Lloyd Whitlock ). Worried, the schoolmaster finally tracks her, and fights with his rival, thus forever proving his love for M'Liss.

This was the last silent filmed based on the popular Bret Harte's novel of the taming of the undisciplined mountain girl. Re-named The Girl Who Ran Wild starring Gladys Walton, the storyline of this version was changed quite a bit when compared to both the 1915 and 1918 films. Sadly this 1922 film is now considered lost.
