This film was originally scheduled to star Greta Garbo, who had just starred in "Flesh and the Devil", however, Garbo, just 22 years old at the time hated the script and "called in sick" rather than make the film. Eventually MGM capitulated and cast her and John Gilbert in "Love" an adaptation of "Anna Karenina".
