    The Tango Dance Craze

This low-budget 1923 film tried to cash in on the tango craze started by Rudolph Valentino in THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE in 1921. The tango danced by stars George Larkin and Ollie Kirby follows some basic dance steps but then devolves into bizarre high kicks and fox trot moves. Larkin and Kirby are dressed in similar outfits worn in the Valentino film.

Tango aside, the plot here involves a mysterious stranger (Larkin) who comes to a border town and wows the crowd at the local cantina with his tango. His dance partner, the notorious La Carmelita (Kirby) is involved with smugglers and she lures Larkin into flying a plane loaded with contraband into Mexico, In the meantime, the local thugs kidnap a rancher's daughter (Dorris Dare) who just happens to be sweet on Larkin.

Standard plot is highlighted by location shooting and some nice stunt work on a biplane by Larkin and Dare.

Larkin and Kirby were married at the time they appeared in this film. It marked Ollie Kirby's first film since 1917 and her first feature film. She had appeared in serials and short films before this.
