    • Trivia
In December 1922, during location filming in front of São Bento Palace (the Portuguese Parliament), in an action scene featuring political unrest and a bombing, the Police arrested the French cinematographer, siezed the film, and summoned the producer to a hearing. Even after the legal proceedings was closed, there was public criticism for a film documenting the (actual) political unrest in Portugal then.
    • Alternate versions
After the previews, the executive producers were dissatisfied with the director's cut which they also considered the to be too short. It was edited into a very different and longer version, in 7 parts, that was well received at its Paris and Lisbon premieres, and was then released in Brazil and the UK.
