Whoever sees it will be impressed with that heroic defense

Here is given a historical drama which will take rank immediately with the important educational films. While it possesses all the movement and interest of a war picture, it tells the story of the defense and fall of the Alamo in such a realistic manner that whoever sees it will be impressed with that heroic defense. To see an entire garrison annihilated, only three children and two women being taken, emphasizes a historical event as nothing else outside of the original contest could do. It is the story of Gen Santa Ana's attack upon the Alamo on Feb. 23, 1836, and shows how the defenders with 140 men held out until the cannon made a breach in the walls and the few remaining were overwhelmed. The negatives were made on the spot, and the Melies players were assisted by students of the Peacock Military College. Such famous characters as Col. William Bowie, Col. William B. Travis, the commander of the American forces, David Crockett, and others whose names live in Texas history, are introduced. It is a very thrilling and altogether satisfactory reproduction of an important historical episode. The company deserves the highest commendation for the picture and the way it is produced. - The Moving Picture World, June 10, 1911
