Amidst The Crashing Tides Of Lake Erie

Raymond Hitchcock and valet Mack Sennett take the train to Buffalo. Once there, Hitchcock rescues Mabel Normand from a runaway horse. He hands her his calling card. When she shows it to her parents, they remember they were friends with his father and promised her hand in marriage to him. When Hitchcock gets a note from them, he doesn't know they're talking about Mabel, so he switches places with Sennett. Neither suit French count Fred Mace, who wants to marry into the American's fortune, so he ties her to a rock. As the tide rises, Mack and Raymond go erratically to her rescue.

Of course, this was shot on the California beach, which explains why there are huge boulders in the water and an immense incoming tide. It's a typical Keystone farce of the period, with a lot of mugging and chaos, brought into comprehensibility by Keystone's editors.
