I wasn't sure if this was a horror or a comedy, because when the werewolf came it, it looked more like the cowardly lion than anything sinister. The script is sparse and elementary, which doesn't help the flick, either.
Bad acting, cliche plot, and the werewolf looked like a kid's Halloween costume. Don't waste the time or money. I understand this movie was created on a budget and not everyone has incredible CGI skills, but at least try to make it unique.
I fast forward through this movie and wished I had just shut it off. Just thinking about this movie makes me wish I had never heard about it. I usually check out the trailers to movies as the posters always make a bad move look good. The trailer was not bad, so I thought I would give the movie a try. I no longer can trust trailers.
This is literally the worst movie I've seen the last 15-20 years. It's laughable. There's absolutely nothing good about this movie. It's a minus 1 out of 10.
When I sat down in 2022 to watch the 2021 horror movie "The Hunting" from writers Mark Andrew Hamer, Heather Ryan and Terrance Ryan, I have to admit that I was lured in by the movie's cover/poster, and the promise of this being a werewolf movie. I will say that the movie's cover was really, really nice, so I had some expectations to "The Hunting", despite never having heard about it. And there is that saying "don't judge a book by its cover".
The same saying applies to movies apparently, because I was expecting a properly entertaining movie from director Mark Andrew Hamer with his 2021 movie "The Hunting". But I was handed a very monotonous and boring movie that offered almost nothing in terms of entertaining. In fact, I was wondering if the movie's title was a reference to the fact that perhaps the director was hunting for a proper script and storyline here.
Take heed, because "The Hunting" is by no means a good movie. Not unless you consider sitting through an endless tirade of dialogue and virtually nothing happening to justify this as a werewolf movie. I managed to suffer through about an hour of the ordeal that is "The Hunting", then I gave up out of pure and utter boredom. This movie was a massive swing and a miss.
The acting performances in the movie were adequate, especially when taking into consideration that the storyline and script gave the actors and actresses nothing to work with. I wasn't familiar with the cast in "The Hunting", and that is actually something I enjoy when watching movies. But the actors and actresses that partook in the making of this movie never got off to a running start.
Visually then "The Hunting" was mundane too. There was nothing grand to be seen here. At least not in the one hour of torment I suffered through.
Don't waste your time, money or effort on this movie. If you enjoy werewolf movies there are better choices out there. Granted, the majority of movies in the werewolf genre are dubious, but there are movies worth watching out there. Sadly, then "The Hunting" just wasn't one of them.
I am rating "The Hunting" a three out of ten stars.
