I actually really loved the first episode!

I'm not even going to add a rating cause THE SHOW HASN'T EVEN ENDED! All of the negative reviews are literally either homophobic, transphobic, or mad about nudity. It's literally a human body get over it and for the review saying it's not realistic cause you've never met a gay commander, my mother's best friend is a gay commander. Even if you've never seen it, does not mean it doesn't happen. Anyways, the first episode (as of me writing this it's the only one out) was actually pretty good. It was a little odd at moments, but the soundtrack was good. The cinematography was AMAZING! The acting was pretty good. The script felt a little off at moments or like forced, but it didn't really bother me too much. Also, it actually made me emotional because of how I have been in a similar position as Fraser. Jack Dylan Grazer is doing a really good job with the role and I feel like the episode will get better and better. It gives me a Euphoria vibe without being anything like Euphoria. I would probably give the first episode a 8/10.

Progressive so far in the GOOD sense.

Most tourists only see the Grand Canal, so great to see other parts of that Northern Laguna, passed so quickly from Venice airport to the Old City. Fraser, the adolescent is definitely a complete paradox of a young man, but it's great to see such complex character-molding, with so candid treatment of alternate sexuality and the way the community embraces it - or otherwise. The rest of the Screen-Making community could learn a thing or two from this candid filmography, literally by letting scenes "roll", showing things as they are, as opposed to what the directors want them to be. The guys in this are certainly coquettish, but that's because normal guys, in real life DO act in this manner. Objectified? - huh! Now just don't go and spoil things, HBO - since my "7" , like many others' praise here is provisional.

    Was good, then...

The first six episodes really seemed like they had promise. The show touches on many interesting ideas, but does not follow through on many (or most) of them.

The seventh episode was a waste of time that added nothing to the stories.

The eight episode is 40 minutes of a concert I didn't want to attend, then a nonsensical ending to a story that had built such complicated characters.

Very unsatisfying overall, but if you're going to try it, binge it. Not worth waiting week to week.

People giving ratings without watching the...

Complete first season dilutes the whole rating-system. The invidual episodes have higher ratings the rating all over.

surprised by the hate this is getting

Seems to be a lot of negative feedback due to the fact this isn't "what it's like to be on a foreign military base" from those who have experience first hand, which I guess we have to respect, however, it's just a tv show and not a one sided documentary, so why base judgement on that? Interesting story for the modern age, felt like a typical Guadagnino to me so enjoyed it quite a lot. From my perspective, people should chill out and not expect a real life 100% factual account of what life is actually like in such an environment, but that's just me. Thanks!
