With no knowledge of its source material, the series feels different in comparison to other Marvel animated series. The main reason being this isn't targeted towards younger audiences and the violence is more graphic than initially expected.
What makes it work is the characters. The monkey is likeable (although do not understand why he wasn't given a name), Bryce (voiced by Jason Sudeikis) has funny and witty dialogue, and the other supporting characters are interesting. As watched the finale episode, can only wonder how much more anticipation season 2 will be.

The monkey is likable, the action is especially crazy (leveraging the monkey's acrobatics), and Jason Sudeikis provides some really funny lines throughout! :-) Lots of wild graphic action, irreverent comedy, and a bunch of heart! :-)
This tv show is very good for me. It is totally for adults due to the violence they have and especially how they show it. It's very entertaining and like everything in marvel it always has a bit of comedy.
I saw the trailer and was like, oh cool, a funny show about a monkey assassin, this should be a good laugh. Finished the season after crying about 5 times. Jesus Christ, the feels, take your 10 stars.
When I decided to watch this show, I expected to watch a monkey kill some bad guys. And that's more or less what I got. Monkey does kill a lot of bad guys in well-animated and bloody fights. What I didn't expect was a show with surprisingly good emotional beats, well written characters, and an engaging plot. It's obviously no Shawshank, but if you're looking for a well-made, entertaining watch, you could do a lot worse.

- TriviaIn February 2019, it was announced that Marvel Television was developing an adult animated television series based on M.O.D.O.K., with a series order at Hulu, along with ones based on Hit-Monkey, Tigra and Dazzler, and Howard the Duck, that were intended to lead up to a crossover special titled The Offenders. In December 2019, Marvel Television was folded into Marvel Studios, which carried subsequent oversight of the series. The following month, Marvel decided not to move forward with Howard the Duck, Tigra & Dazzler, and The Offenders, with M.O.D.O.K. (2021) and Hit Monkey continuing as planned.
