Quite good, even on its own.
A bit depressing that the feel and scope of Trek is better handled by an animation than by a live action show.... dear... why Discovery and Picard... uter failures they are.
But this is good! Sure it has it's misgivings and differences, but Trek fans should rejoice; we finally have a Trek we can appreciate that deeply pays tribute to what we know and love. This is a gem, thank you for this.

Excellent exciting fun. This is a show disguised as a children show, but don't underestimate it. It has all the scale and adventure of a motion picture paced over 10 episodes.
For the Star Trek gatekeepers insisting it misses the traditional formula that distinguishes Star Trek, this is true to a degree. Prodigy doesn't completely discard that formula, not at all, the intellectual dilemmas, bonding of crew mates, strange new worlds, diversity of culture and much more are still there.
Prodigy democratizes Starfleet by telling us the potential to be, not merely a lower decker, but a bridge member, can be drawn out of the most unexpected of us. That within the least of us, lies the Prodigy required for Starfleet greatness. With the right conditions the greatness Starfleet crews excel to is formed. That by trying conditions not merely Starfleet academy testing prodigy's are found.
Prodigy does exactly what Star Trek proclaims to do. It boldy goes, without reserve, where it's predecessors were either unwilling or lacked the courage and vision to. By flipping formulaic tradition Prodigy reaches an audience of the pragmatic and not merely the academic. With it's ragtag team of youth it opens Starfleet to all of us.
It has heart, genuine character arcs, strong dilemmas and a fun mystery. If you're a hard purist gatekeeper stay far away. If you can see the good in what I described, you'll enjoy it.

... it got me. Thought I would hate this and watched out of pure curiosity (I really wanted to hate this) and after watching the first episode, I now can't wait for the next. Love the plot, characters are good, even got me jigging about on the final "death star" sequence when the phasers kicked in. Good showing guys. Worth a go. Don't get the initial bad ratings. People just don't have enough joy in there hearts nowadays.
Sure it starts out somewhat childish and sort of a reminder of Star Wars but it definitely improves over time. It's worth a watch. I don't want to spoil things but there are a lot of reoccurring Star Trek themes and situations. The whole atmosphere of the show feels much more as expected from fans which is refreshing in itself after all the agenda pushing of the other products.
The overall story-line is an ethical dilemma itself. As I see this could easily go on as a live-action version. Also, the ST audience deserves a real continuation of the story of the Federation after the events with Voyager.

While I get that it doesn't have a true Star Trek storyline, I like the fresh take. I have a feeling the crew will continue to grow and who knows who or what they will encounter from the Star Trek universe. The animation and voice acting are top notch and it has an element of action that I feel sometimes Star Trek lacks. I am on board to see where this takes us.
