Vishama Bhaga (The Other Half) is a very refreshing and calm motion picture. The director of the movie, Lalith Rathnayake, has been successful in keeping the flow of the movie at a calm but gradual phase that one could even relate it to a meditation. Throughout the movie you will notice many symbolic messages. Almost every frame is carefully produced to keep the dialogues and pictures in perfect balance. If you enjoy international artistic feature films, this is a must watch.
The movie is also one of the first charity feature films produced in Sri Lanka. Even though the main goal of the movie is to discuss the ill effects of teacher centric education, the secondary goal of this movie is to bring awareness to the ill effects of chemically contaminated ground water sources. The proceedings of the movie has been used to build water purification systems in rural areas in Sri Lanka to decrease the Chronic Kidney Disease prevalence.

I did enjoy it for sure and hope to see movies from this director in the future. I think this movie is a turning point in srilankan film industry.
It is the responsibility of the responsible human being to identify the human beings with different talents if the human community is to survive on this earth for another period of time. It was as if one day the human child under the human being got a ladder to climb. Heterogeneous cinematography wonderfully illustrates the hidden aspect of such a human community .
An exceptional movie produced by the award winning director Lalith Ratnayaka with English subtitles. Highlights the issues of a teacher centric education system that does not provide the tools or the flexibility to nourish blossoming young talent. Ruwansiri's love for music is not seen as important to the math teacher but his brilliant recital of a poem learnt from his grandfather makes the math teacher look at Ruwansiri's issue from a different perspective. In addition, knowing that the proceeds are used for a benevolent cause of providing clean drinking water to the farming communities affected by the chronic kidney disease makes me feel good.
Touching family movie discusses a big issue in Lankan education system and chronic kidney disease in rural dry zone in Sri Lanka due to large scale usage of harmful pesticides in agriculture.
Extremely powerful context and beautiful cinematography with strong acting of specially two kids.
Warning: Tears will come to see and hear this
