About a Teacher

Did a great job of depicting the day-to-day of an NYC DOE teacher during the first few years! I related to this movie on so many levels, and it was hilarious. Highly recommend it!

As a soon-to-be teacher this movie was AWESOME to watch. It shows the struggles of the first few years of teaching but how rewarding it is.

This was an excellent film! As someone that is about to embark on the profession, it gave insight to what this profession entails. It is a great representation of what this life is going to be like and how immersed we will be become as teachers with our students and the rigor that comes with the job. The great underlying message is to never give up. No matter how difficult it is in the beginning don't quit. As Mr. Harchol told us, "It does get better." This is a film I will watch again and probably a few more times after that. It is also an important film for current teachers so they can reflect on how different things are going now as opposed to when their career first started.

This beautifully crafted film goes to the heart of what it means to teach. It deals with both the struggles and the deeply moral mission of a profession that often chooses us rather than the other way about. Hanon's story resonated deeply with my pre-service students, giving them a sense of the challenges that lie ahead and the rewards that await them if they only stick it out. It provides the long(er) view of what it means to learn to teach. It doesn't happen in a day, or a year of teacher education. It takes time and a ton of work, all of which Harchol is unafraid to explore. I highly recommend it.

I was a teacher for 2 years. This movie showed perfectly what the classroom is like. It's a zoo!!! The kids are terrible! I almost got ptsd.
