Why make a fictionalized story when there is a real one begging to be told? Why not honor a real-life hero Witold Pilecki - a Polish military officer who volunteered to be captured and sent to Auchwitz, literally to infiltrate the camp! While there, he established an underground network (with codenames and everything) that helped many prisoners survive, sent out reports from inside, and then orchestrated a daring escape for himself and a few others. After the war, sadly, he was murdered by the communists. This is a real story that surpasses anything fiction could create! Why Pilecki's story hasn't yet been turned into a Hollywood blockbuster is beyond me. Why he is not widely known and recognized, I also cannot understand. I highly recommend reading the Pilecki's book Report from Auschwitz, you can find it online for free.
This was a painful film to watch. Most of the film focuses on the men in the camp and the two men trying to get out to contact the Resistance. They don't get to write the report or talk to anyone about what happened until the last 20 minutes of the film. The agony they suffer just to get to that point is excruciating.
And then it's a different kind of suffering to see that they are not believed because the enormity of the crime seemed incredible. The men must have felt so frustrated that they had risked everything to tell the truth and other men at the camp died helping them yet the outcome they wanted did not occur.
This film is about man's inhumanity to man. They did get some kindness on their journey otherwise they would not have survived so they had to be thankful for that.... But the larger tragedy is overwhelming...

This true story is a must see for anyone interested in WW2 history. The writers put a lot of effort to make the story correct. Even when it would result in the movie coming dull at some times. Especially the last 30 minutes of the movie were slowgoing. The part of the movie that covered what happened in the camp was however more than sufficient to still give this movie a 7-star rating.
I wish there were more of these movies that show the horrors that took place during WW2. Especially in the current-day climate of increasing tensions between the "west" and "east", people should know how horrible wars can be.

Well, first of all, if you sit down to watch the 2021 movie "The Auschwitz Report" with the hopes of it being a classic World War II movie, then you are in for a rude awakening. This is not a war movie about troops fighting on the land, air or sea, no this is a movie about the two people that managed to escape the horror of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp and compile a report about the location and the events that took place there.
"The Auschwitz Report" is a slow paced movie, but it is an entertaining movie nonetheless. However, I doubt that writers Peter Bebjak, Tomás Bombík and Jozef Pastéka's 2021 movie is one that will easily fall into everyone's liking though. And while the movie does take place in one of history's most vile and loathsome places, then director Peter Bebjak actually manages to keep the movie relatively free of the atrocities committed there, but at the same time you know very well about the horrors that took place.
I enjoyed this movie given the historical aspect to the storyline, and also because it was based on actual events.
The movie does have some good acting performances by the cast, though I were only familiar with John Hannah of all the actors and actresses that were in the movie. I will say that actors Noel Czuczor and Peter Ondrejicka definitely carried the movie quite well with their performances.
I suppose that a movie such as this is one that can be difficult for some viewers to sit through.
"The Auschwitz Report" is a movie that you have to watch if you have an interest in World War II, and especially so if you have an interest in the events that took place at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
My rating of "The Auschwitz Report" lands on a six out of ten stars.

Alfred Wetzler and Rudolf Vrba were heros. And this movie shows their struggles in very great way. Historical very accurate. After long time historical must see movie.
