Shakeela review :
Not many may know that Shakeela was a Southern sex siren of late 90s and early 2000s and her Malayalam films became such rage that their badly dubbed Hindi versions made it to the matinee shows of Mumbai single screens. This film is a purported biopic on this actor though it seems to be heavily inspired from Vidya Balan's super hit 'The Dirty Picture' (2011) which itself was a biopic on another soft porn star Silk Smitha.
Interestingly, the character Silk has a small presence in this film and it is only after her suicide that Shakeela's fortune changes. Pushed in to the soft porn industry by her greedy mother, Shakeela's rise to the top and her subsequent fall is chronicled in the film though it is nowhere as convincing and exciting as the Vidya Balan film.
Richa Chadda, in the titular role, is not bad but she doesnt resemble the real life Shakeela at all. There is no transformation in terms of accent and body language; something Balan could achieve fantastically in The Dirty Picture. Pankaj Tripathi playing superstar Salim is absolutely bland. As for the other supporting cast, the less said the better.
Shakeela is not a kind of film worth risking the theatres for. You may try it out once it premieres online.

Brief Review -
It is humanly impossible to make worse Biopic than this. A legendary film in the club of craps. You know i have a certain notion about biographical dramas that one should make a film on the Life of someone who could inspire you to do some real good in your life. May be that's why i hated many biopics made on gangsters and negative personalities where the main character is not a legend nor a good person. Shakeela was a very famous adult star of her time but i never expected any good stuff from the biopic because i knew that the main character was wrong at first place even though it had to give it a name of struggle. The film tellls you about her life in 124 minutes and if you could hold your sight for even 60 minutes then Shakeela is somewhere close to 'BAD' status otherwise even calling it 'Worst' is an compliment. It's unbearable, dull, scattered, filthy, slimy, asinine and what not. Every available adjective in the dictionary should be used to praise the bluntless of it. The writing is pathetic, the screenplay is perhaps the worst of worst for any biopic ever made in Bollywood history, the presentation is slummy and all the technical aspects are disastrous. What's more shocking is that the talented artists like Richa Chadha and Pankaj Tripathi gave one the most disgusting performance of their career. Whatever was the reason behind making this film, there cannot be any explanation to it now and if one is there then it is unacceptable. God only knows how Indrajit Lankesh even dared to make this piece of crap film-making and even released for the audience after seeing the final cut. Shakeela has buried all the fields of filmmaking alive and those who will decide to watch it will have to mourn. If there is any elite club of crap films then put Shakeela out of it and design one separate club of legends of craps and then throw it in there.
