I'm About to Lose Control and I Think Joe Lycett

I don't watch much comedy, I find it difficult to enjoy amateurs. I only really like geniuses like Ricky Gervais or Peter Kay for instance. People that are so intelligent in their originality and how they use comedy for the purpose of enlightening the world about itself and holding a mirror up to itself. Most amateur comedy that you watch is cheap toilet humour or shock humour etc and has no intelligence in it. I don't set out to be this way, I would love to be able to find the latter rubbish funny, but that's just the way I am. I saw some clips of Joe Lycett on youtube and it got me intrigued about him. He seems to me one of those very intelligent people who are actually able to make you laugh with quality and wholesome and meaningful humour. And this live DVD didn't disappoint. He talks about everyday stuff and helps to laugh at ourselves and the human condition. I think he is excellent. I also particularly like that he is from Brum and jokes about the Black Country too. The Midlands is my home and we don't get much representation or coverage in the national sphere.

Curiously dated, making 2018 seem about a billion years ago, but Lycett's easy manner (which is that of a chatty colleague) make it a dream to watch and thoroughly fun. Interesting to see the early architecture of what he'd later become more known for here, the sculpture and painting, the lush floral daftness.

I first saw Joe Lycett on "Taskamster", and have enjoyed his various shows ever since. This show does not disappoint;, from engaging with the audience to his rants and communication to corporate bullies, he is unique and engaging..

I laughed. I cried. I spilled yoghurt in the bath.
