Imagine a dystopian society where almost everyone is addicted to a drug that provides them with best friends only they can see. While it may sound appealing, the addiction is real and the withdrawal symptoms are severe. Addicts are willing to do anything to keep getting the drug. This is essentially the storyline of this animated short film.
I believe films like this are largely educational, even if they were primarily made for entertainment. Considering how addicted we already are to our phones, tablets, video games, social media, and various internet services, a technology resembling virtual reality could make things even worse. If nothing else, Best Friend serves as a powerful reminder of the potential consequences that may arise from the ever-increasing role of technology in our society.

A short animation about loneliness. As a verdict. Or a prediction about artificial world and the need of surogates. Well crafted, it is seductive first for basic idea. So, a too realistic portrait of contemporary world, from adultescence to the dictatorship of technology. Nothing new, at the first sigh. But useful. For remind the importance of friendship. And for admire the direct relationship.
This is a bit of a scattergun film. I just didn't get into it and felt dragged along, hoping for something new and fresh. I know. There is a point--once again we are looking at the problems with lack of connection among human beings.
