Orphan gawky thin Kamal must be in his early 20s during this movie . A bold movie of its times . It charts his path of sexual journey. As a very young chap, he works as a helper in a rich house manned by the strict landlord , his kind understanding wife , his young widowed sister. Though they are childless, the landlord and his faithful wife are very loving with each other and their servants. The widowed sister often ogles at Kamal ( who has to work bare torso ) and seduces him more than once while acting innocent outwards . When the land lord finds out , he thrashes him and he is thrown out of the village by his guardian. Dejected he comes to Chennai and becomes the butt of many sexual advances by many . Quietly he succumbs to all and sundry learning a few lessons on the way . Some where in between his old landlord friend comes to the city to meet his old friend and realises that his wife is cheating behind his friend's back . Shocked he wonders if he misunderstood his widowed sister and his helper - Kamal .
Kamal meets a rich call girl Srividya ( resplendent and eye catching in her glam avatar) and she soon invites him to live under her roof . He expects her to made advances towards him but she surprises him by saying that she misses a family member and he should be her life long brother . He is stunned and continues to live with her through her customers and clients . Confused about his own growing sexuality and yearning for companionship and disillusioned about whats right or wrong , he starts visiting call girls himself . He slowly contacts STDs and when Sri Vidya finds out she throws him out for being disloyal and debaucherous . In the end , he dies a slow death in a dingy hospital much to the chagrin of his caring doctor. The whole movie is about infidelity , multiple partners, faith , trust , suspicions and adultery. An eyeopening movie shows the perils of lack of stability and balance in life. Its all about adult relations . We feel sorry for every character , even the rich women who have sly affairs . Every one is searching for some cohesion. The ending is sad but attaches to our hearts.
